Over the past 48 hours, the region has been rocked by three shootings that have left one dead and two injured.
The occurrences have raised apprehensions of a potential escalation into a dire gang warfare within the city’s confines.
First Incident: A History Sheeter Fatally Shot
The grim sequence of events commences with a history sheeter, Pappu alias Sushant Laxman Satpute, meeting a tragic end.
The 25-year-old criminal’s life was extinguished in the Kolvan village, falling under the jurisdiction of the Paud police.
Ravindra Satpute, another individual, sustained injuries during the altercation.
Second Incident: Gangster Targeted During Tea Break
The turmoil persists as the spotlight shifts to a local gangster, Santosh Ashok Kurawat.
The 33-year-old finds himself under attack while having tea near Sadhu Vaswani garden in Pimpri.
Gunfire erupts, leaving Kurawat wounded. The assailants manage to graze his head with one bullet and strike his leg with another.
Third Incident: Attempted Homicide on Former Shiv Sena Worker
In a disturbing development, a 34-year-old former Shiv Sena worker, Vijay Pandurang Gholap, becomes a victim of an assassination attempt.
Unidentified individuals open fire on Gholap in the Gavali Matha area of Bhosari. The gunshots, aimed at his abdomen, inflict serious injuries.
Security and Investigation: Police Response and Measures
Addressing concerns about public safety, Pune region deputy commissioner of police, zone 3, Ganesh Shinde, reassures the public that the recent incidents stem from conflicts between gang members and do not pose a general security threat.
Authorities remain committed to a thorough investigation and swift resolution. Bhosari Police have registered a complaint under Sections 302 and 307 of the Indian Penal Code, along with relevant sections of the Arms Act.
Manhunt and Motive: Tracking Suspects and Investigating Causes
Efforts to apprehend the assailants are underway, as two teams from Bhosari Police are combing through CCTV footage and mobile call records to identify the perpetrators.
Preliminary investigations hint at underlying animosities and possible financial entanglements as motives for the attacks.
Arrests Made: Progress in the Santosh Kurawat Case
Encouragingly, progress has been achieved in the case of Santosh Ashok Kurawat.
Four individuals, including the prime suspect Vicky Sutar (23), have been apprehended.
