Pune Gangland: Pune Police Applies MCOCA Against Avinash Gupta Gang for String of Crimes

Pune City Police has decisively taken action by invoking the rigorous Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against a gang comprising 13 members.
The leader of this criminal group is identified as Avinash Ramprasad Gupta, aged 20, hailing from the Shivane area in Pune.
Robbery Case and Detentions:
Gupta, along with nine accomplices, was apprehended by the police in connection with a significant robbery incident in the Market Yard area.
The robbery, involving a sum of Rs. 28 lakh, transpired in November of the previous year. One minor was also detained in relation to this crime. However, three other suspects remain at large.
Gang Member Identities:
Apart from Gupta, the gang consists of several individuals. These include Aditya Ashok Marane (28) from Warje Malwadi, Ajay Bapu Diwate (23) from Warje, Nilesh Balu Gothe (20) from Mangalwar Peth, Vishal Satish Kasabe (20) from Mangalwar Peth, Deepak Om Prakash Sharma (19) from Shivane, Gurujan Singh Seva Singh (22) from Shivajinagar, Santosh Balu Pawar (23) from Panshet Road, Sai Rajendra Kumbhar (19) from Khanapur, and a minor, as stated by the police.
Criminal Record and Past Activities:
The police have uncovered the gang’s involvement in a series of criminal cases, encompassing robbery, rioting, and other offences.
These cases have been registered at various police stations scattered across Pune city.
Approval of MCOCA Proposal:
The proposal to enact MCOCA measures against this gang has been sanctioned by Additional Commissioner of Police Ranjan Sharma.
The charges filed in the case registered at the Market Yards police station include various sections of the Indian Penal Code such as 395 (punishment for dacoity), 397 (robbery or dacoity), and 120(b), alongside section 37(1) with 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, and Section 4(25) of the Arms Act.
Additionally, Sections 3(1)(ii), 3(2), and 3(4) of MCOCA have been invoked, further intensifying the legal consequences.
