- Gang Leader and Associates Implicated in String of Criminal Cases
Pune City Police has escalated its response to the escalating menace posed by the ‘Koyta gang’ by invoking the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against 13 of its members. Among them, Samir Pathan (26), a resident of Malwadi, has been identified as the leader of the gang.
Samir and nine of his associates were apprehended by the police in connection with an attempt to murder and rioting case that was registered at the Hadapsar police station last month. While the police are actively pursuing the remaining three suspects in the same case, the invocation of MCOCA signals the gravity of the situation.
Multiple Past Incidents Linking Gang to Various Crimes
Samir Pathan and his accomplices have a history intertwined with criminal activities, encompassing a range of offenses such as robbery, rioting, and others.
These incidents have been recorded across various police stations, reflecting their involvement in numerous illegal activities over time.
Exemplary Measures Taken Against Key Gang Members
One member of the gang, Ganesh alias Dada Havaldar (22), had reached a point of intensified criminal activities that he was previously banished from the city’s boundaries through externment.
Given the escalating threat and influence of the gang, Senior Police Inspector Arvind Gokule of the Hadapsar police station proposed invoking MCOCA to curtail their activities and ensure public safety.
This proposal was duly endorsed by Additional Commissioner of Police Ranjan Sharma.
As Pune City Police employs stringent measures to combat organised crime and safeguard its residents, the invocation of MCOCA stands as a resolute step to counteract the escalating activities of the ‘Koyta gang’.
