PUNE Hadapsar, 12th January 2023:

In a resolute move against criminal gangs resorting to terror tactics involving choppers (locally known as “koyta”), Pune city police have invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against a group of 14 gang members.

Officials have confirmed that these individuals will remain ineligible for bail for a minimum of six months as a result of this legal action.

This decisive step follows the directives of Commissioner of Police Retesh Kumaarr and Joint CP Sandeep Karnik.

Menacing Episode: Gang’s Violent Activities Prompts MCOCA Response

On the 9th of December 2023, a group of 8 to 10 individuals launched an attack on two people and engaged in verbal abuse directed at residents in the vicinity of Maharaja Wines within the Gopalpatti area of Manjari Budruk.

Their departure on motorcycles was accompanied by a display of choppers in the air, along with verbal threats proclaiming their dominance as “dons (Bhai)” in the area.

The gang leader, Samir Liaquat Pathan (26), and his associates, Shoib Liaquat Pathan and Ganesh alias Dada Vitthal Havaldar, already bear criminal records.

Proactive Police Measures: Submission of MCOCA Proposal Leads to Action

Senior Police Inspector Arvind Gokule, who holds responsibility for the Hadapsar police station, initiated a proposal to invoke the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the gang in question.

This proposal was channeled through Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Vikrant Deshmukh to Additional Commissioner of Police (East Region) Ranjan Sharma.

As a result, decisive action was taken against the gang, with Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Bajrang Desai now leading the ongoing investigation into the case.
