The Pune City Police have taken decisive action against the Kudale gang by invoking the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA). This move comes after a recent incident in which the gang, led by Omkar alias Aba Kudale, created chaos and instigated violence during a procession held in Kothrud on August 1 to commemorate the birth anniversary of social reformer Anna Bhau Sathe.

Omkar Kudale, a prominent figure within the gang and a resident of Kothrud, along with seven of his associates, were apprehended for their alleged involvement in the incident.

The gang’s activities had previously drawn the attention of law enforcement due to their connections with various criminal offenses in the Kothrud area.

The procession, which aimed to honor the legacy of Anna Bhau Sathe, took a dark turn at approximately 8:15 pm on August 1.

As the procession reached Shastri Nagar, Kudale and his associates reportedly launched a violent attack, wielding swords against the disc jockey (DJ) who was part of the event.

While the DJ managed to escape unharmed, Kudale proceeded to verbally abuse and assault other participants in the procession. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Promptly responding to the incident, the Kothrud police registered a case and took Kudale and his associates into custody.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Bhimrao Tele remarked, “Given Kudale and his gang’s history of bodily offenses within the locality, we have decided to invoke the MCOCA against them to safeguard the area’s law and order.”

The charges brought against the accused individuals include a range of sections from the Indian Penal Code (IPC) such as 120 (B), 307, 427, 504, and 34, along with relevant sections from the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.

Furthermore, the Arms Act’s Section 4(25) and MCOCA’s sections 3(1)(ii), 3(2), and 3(4) have also been invoked against all the suspects involved.

This robust action by the Pune City Police underscores the commitment to maintaining public safety and curbing organized criminal activities within the region.

The enforcement of the MCOCA demonstrates the authorities’ dedication to upholding law and order, particularly in the face of such disturbances during community events.
