PUNE, 26 February 2021

Having been declared an absconder by Pune police after facing six FIRs, notorious gangster Gajanan Marne, who recently celebrated his release from Taloja Jail, took an unexpected turn by surrendering before the Vadgaon Maval court. Seeking bail in one of the cases, Marne managed to slip through the police’s grasp, leaving them stunned.

The Flip Side of Freedom

Only a week ago, the commissioner of police had officially labeled Marne as an absconder due to the multiple cases against him.

However, his dramatic surrender before the court for bail seemed to defy the odds.

An Acquittal Leads to Bold Actions

Marne’s recent acquittal in two murder cases from 2014 emboldened him to stage an elaborate rally to mark his release from Taloja jail after six years of confinement.

The rally, featuring a massive convoy of over 500 cars and thousands of supporters, caught fire on social media and caught the attention of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad police.

This attention resulted in the registration of six FIRs against Marne and his associates.

Legal Maneuvering and Surprise Surrender

Marne was promptly produced in court and granted bail on February 18 for one of the cases.

However, the very next day, another FIR was lodged against him, prompting his alleged disappearance from the city.

Challenging these developments, Marne then surrendered himself to the court in a surprising move, seeking release in the latter case.

Battle in the High Court

In a bold move, Marne has taken his fight against all six FIRs to the Bombay High Court.

He filed six separate writ petitions against Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad police, contesting the legality and intentions behind these cases.

Defensive Legal Stance

Advocate Vipul Dushing, representing Marne, strongly asserted that the Criminal Law Amendment Act does not apply in this scenario. He contended that the cases were politically motivated and driven by malicious intent.

Marne’s anticipatory bail applications for all six writ petitions are currently pending before the court.

Legal Interpretations and Evading Interrogation

According to an anonymous senior police officer from the crime branch, Marne had previously ignored calls for interrogation.

Now, by utilizing the legal system to his advantage, he has managed to slip through the authorities’ grasp.

However, the officer assured that appropriate action will be taken against Marne in due course.
