Infamous criminal Gajanan Marne, who had recently been released from Taloja Jail, has once again been taken into custody by the Pune Rural Police, this time from the Satara district on Saturday.
Pune Rural Police Superintendent, Dr. Abhinav Deshmukh, has confirmed that the 44-year-old gangster has been detained under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act.
History of Legal Maneuvers
Gajanan Marne and his gang members had been released from prison in February following their acquittal by the special MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act) court in two murder cases.
Their release was followed by a celebratory procession from Taloja in Navi Mumbai to Pune, consisting of approximately 250-300 vehicles, including multiple SUVs.
However, these events led to the gang facing multiple charges in regions of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
Rivalry and Incarceration
Gajanan Marne’s arrest lands him in the Yerawada Central Jail, the same facility where his rival, Nilesh Ghaywal, had recently been incarcerated by Pune Rural Police.
Marne and Ghaywal’s enmity traces back to a gang war that was active in Pune a decade ago.
Ghaywal, having a criminal record that boasts over 12 cases including murder, attempted murder, extortion, and more, adds another layer of complexity to the situation.
Evasion and Bail Request
Authorities reveal that Marne had been evading capture, fearing imminent arrest.
On February 25, he appeared before the Wadgaon Maval Court to seek bail in a case registered at the Talegaon Dabhade Police Station.
Despite the court granting him bail, Marne left the premises while the police were pursuing him for his involvement in other cases.
The cycle of apprehension and legal proceedings continues as law enforcement strives to maintain public safety and control criminal activities.
