Former Member of Parliament (MP) Sanjay Kakade found himself in police custody on Wednesday morning, apprehended by the Pune crime branch team.

His arrest is linked to his alleged involvement in a recent rally orchestrated by renowned gangster Gajanan Marne.

Arrested Ex-MP Appears in Court

The Pune crime branch promptly presented Kakade in court later the same day, resulting in his release on bail.

As per police information, infamous gangster Marne was released from Taloja Jail in Mumbai approximately two months ago. Subsequently, a grand rally was organized by his supporters, stretching from Mumbai to Pune.

Videos capturing the massive procession rapidly spread across social media platforms. Responding to this spectacle, police launched actions against Marne and apprehended multiple associates.

Arrest Sparks Speculation Amidst Upcoming PMC Elections

An anonymous police official disclosed that their investigation uncovered Kakade’s links to Marne and his purported encouragement of the rally that transpired in February.

The rally saw over 500 cars and numerous supporters participating, using drone cameras for documentation.

The procession attracted attention for various reasons, including toll evasion on the Expressway and the ignition of fireworks. Amidst escalating concerns, Marne became a target of legal action, prompting his evasion.

However, he was eventually detained by Satara police and transferred to Pune authorities.

Legal Ramifications and Kakade’s Connection with Marne

Subsequent to the rally, legal cases were filed against Marne at different police stations across the city. The cybercrime Police Station, led by sub-inspector Anil Dafal, lodged one such complaint. The crime branch registered cases against Marne and his accomplices at Bund Garden police station. Prior to his arrest, Kakade was summoned for interrogation.

Former MP Allegedly Supports Marne’s Rally

The police investigation contended that the former MP maintains both direct and indirect ties with Marne. Furthermore, allegations suggest Kakade provided financial backing to Marne’s rally.

Court Proceedings and Bail

During court proceedings, advocate Vijay Thombre, representing Sanjay Kakade, argued against the charges.

Thombre highlighted Kakade’s purported innocence, stating that his client’s political adversaries may be targeting him due to his prior participation in elections.

The defense emphasized Kakade’s lack of involvement in the rally or the viral spread of related videos.

Eventually, the court granted bail on the condition of a Rs 25,000 surety.
