PUNE, 30 November 2012

In a harrowing outbreak of gang rivalry, the streets of Bhosari witnessed a deadly clash that led to the tragic deaths of two individuals. Sachin alias Gotya Dhavade, a key figure in the Dhavade gang, became a victim of the ongoing feud with the Landage gang.

The confrontation culminated in Dhavade’s assault and subsequent murder by a group of about 15 unidentified assailants armed with sharp weapons and firearms. Amidst the chaos, one of the attackers, Ankush Lakade, also lost his life in what seems to be a retaliatory exchange of gunfire.

Chaos and Retaliation Unveiled

The assailants launched their assault on Dhavade and his companions while they were stationed outside a godown, initiating a brutal attack that left Dhavade mortally wounded.

Amidst the ensuing melee, gunfire ensued, leading to the demise of Ankush Lakade, one of the assailants. Notably, Lakade was found with a bullet wound in his arm, suggesting he might have been inadvertently hit by his accomplices’ gunfire.

The presence of a monkey cap on Lakade’s person, similar to those worn by the assailants, further solidified his apparent involvement in the attack.

Innocent Bystanders Pay the Price

Amidst the turmoil, Sandip Madhure, a friend of Dhavade’s, sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.

Police authorities have revealed that this wave of violence is rooted in revenge for the 2006 murder of Ankush Landage, the former president of the local Bharatiya Janata Party unit.

Trail of Violence and Unease

The ongoing conflict between the Dhavade and Landage gangs has transformed the Bhosari village into a battleground, leaving six casualties in its wake.

The skirmishes have triggered fear and unrest among the local populace, reminiscent of the 2006 events when scores of families fled their homes, seeking refuge from the crossfire between the rival gangs.

Profile of Sachin Dhavade

Sachin Dhavade’s criminal history is marked by accusations of Ankush Landage’s murder. Although he was granted bail in November 2009, he faced a two-year externment by the court.

After serving his externment, his return to Bhosari was accompanied by a rally organized by his gang.

Following his release, he became implicated in another murder case related to the Landage trial in January 2009, leading to his arrest by the Bhosari police.

Dhavade’s residence in Bhosari boasts fortified defenses, including a formidable iron gate and imposing high compound walls, reflecting the atmosphere of tension and violence that has come to characterize the ongoing gang conflict.
