In the wake of Indian Mujahideen operative Qateel Siddiqui’s brutal murder within Yerawada Central Jail, his cousin Mohammad Afroz Shaikh has come forward demanding a thorough investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Shaikh, who arrived in Pune to claim Siddiqui’s body, expressed concern over Siddiqui’s safety during his imprisonment and alleged that his cousin had been living in fear since his detention.

Eerie Circumstances Unfold

Shaikh revealed that Siddiqui’s younger brother Shakeel had recently reached out to him, conveying Siddiqui’s apprehension and urging Shaikh to visit him in jail.

A series of conflicting reports and his inability to meet Siddiqui raised suspicions. Shaikh expressed regret over not taking stronger action, as he believed that Siddiqui’s life was under threat.

Tragic Revelation of Siddiqui’s Fate

Shaikh recounted a chilling phone call he received from his Delhi-based brother on Friday, informing him about Siddiqui’s demise.

He expressed that the news broadcasted the very incident that Shakeel had feared.

Shaikh emphasized that the loss of Siddiqui underscores the vulnerability of prison security and calls for a thorough investigation by the CBI.

Calls for Independent Probe

Beyond the confines of the family, the demand for a comprehensive investigation has garnered wider support.

Civic activist Anjum Inamdar shared plans of a delegation from their community in Patna to present a memorandum to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, pressing for a CBI inquiry into Siddiqui’s murder.

Local activist M M Sayyed is assisting Siddiqui’s cousin in ensuring the respectful return of the deceased’s remains to his hometown in Bihar.

Path Toward Truth and Closure

V T Patil, a police sub-inspector at Yerawada police station, has offered guidance and assistance to Siddiqui’s cousin regarding the transportation of Siddiqui’s body.

The family is coordinating to arrange confirmed air tickets from Mumbai for the journey back home.

Authorities are working to ensure that Siddiqui’s mortal remains are handled and preserved with due respect throughout the process.
