An anti-corruption bureau (ACB) team has commenced searches at the residence of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) corporator Jayashree Marne.
The searches are part of an investigation into an alleged case of disproportionate assets. Jayashree Marne is the wife of gangster Gajanan Marne, who is presently under police custody due to his alleged involvement in rival gang members’ murders.
Search Operation Conducted in Accordance with Rules and Regulations
ACB Superintendent Digambar Pradhan stated that the investigation was prompted by a complaint.
Given Jayashree Marne’s status as an elected representative, the search is being carried out with strict adherence to rules and regulations governing public servants.
The ACB’s scrutiny will encompass properties, income, and expenditures.
Marne Declines Comment, Citing Ongoing Matter
When approached for a comment, Jayashree Marne chose not to engage on the matter. She expressed, “I don’t want to speak. I have nothing to comment about this matter at this point in time.” Jayashree Marne secured victory in the Pune Municipal Corporation election from Kothrud in 2012, marking her inaugural term as an elected official.
Party Backs Decision to Nominate Jayashree Marne
Jayashree Marne’s selection as an MNS candidate had generated considerable interest, with party leaders supporting the choice.
They asserted that she was not entangled in any criminal or illicit activities, dispelling concerns about her candidacy.
Marne and Accomplices Declared Proclaimed Offenders
In early December, Gajanan Marne and four associates were labeled as proclaimed offenders by the district court in connection with the murder of Santosh Gawde.
Marne and his associates allegedly targeted two members of the rival Nilesh Ghaywal gang within a month’s span.
Gawde was fatally attacked on November 3 in Lavale, Mulshi taluka, while Amol Badhe was shot dead near Vaikunth crematorium on November 29.
Custody and Arrest of Gangster Marne and Aide
Gajanan Marne (49) and his associate Rupesh Marne (31) were taken into custody by the Pune crime branch in the second week of December.
The move followed the issuance of warrants by a magisterial court in Pune. Their custody was secured from Taloja prison.
