Pune Gangland: Warje Gangsters Face MCOCA Action; 103 Gangs Under MCOCA Lens

Commissioner of Police Amitabh Gupta has issued a resolute directive to initiate action under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) against the gang members responsible for spreading terror in the Warje area. The move marks an escalation in the use of MCOCA, bringing the total number of targeted gangs under its purview to 103.
Gangsters’ Identifications and Charges
The gang members subjected to the stringent provisions of MCOCA include Avinash Ramprasad Gupta (20) from Veda Gaurav Society, Shinde Pool, Shivane; Sagar Bhagwat Warkari (22); Vikas Sibban Goud (18), both residents of Rahulnagar, Shivane; Avinash Suresh Sharma (19); Mhamya alias Sandeep Nathuram Khaire (41), both residents of Ramnagar, Warje; and Mehboob Babu Dafedar (19) from Shivane.
Gupta’s Gang Leadership and Minors Under MCOCA
Leading the gang, Avinash Gupta has been identified as its ringleader.
The police have invoked the MCOCA Act against seven minors, including Gupta, Warkari, Goud, Sharma, and Dafedar.
Charges and Criminal Activity
Thirteen associates of Gupta’s gang have been implicated in a range of serious criminal offenses spanning the Warje and Shivane areas.
Charges including attempted murder, extortion, possession of illegal weapons, and intimidation have been registered against Gupta and his cohorts.
Proposals and Stringent Action
Senior Police Inspector DS Hake of Warje Police Station initiated the proposal to take action against Gupta and his associates.
The proposal was endorsed by Crime Branch Police Inspector Dattaram Bagve and Sub-Inspector Manoj Bagal.
Following this, the proposal was presented to Additional Commissioner of Police Rajendra Dahale and Deputy Commissioner Pournima Gaikwad.
Acting on their recommendations, Police Commissioner Gupta authorized a decisive course of action against the gang. The ongoing investigation is under the purview of Assistant Commissioner of Police Rukmini Galande.
Rising Numbers of Gangs Targeted
Over the past year and a half, a total of 103 gangs across the city have been brought under the investigative focus of the police, based on the directives of the Commissioner of Police.
