PUNE, December 14, 2014

The Pune crime branch successfully obtained custody of notorious gangster Gajanan Marne (49) and his associate Rupesh Marne (31) from Taloja prison.

The custody was secured based on production warrants issued by a magisterial court in Pune.

The arrests are in connection to the alleged murder of Amol Badhe, a member of the rival Nilesh Ghaywal gang.

Badhe was fatally shot near Vaikunth in Navi Peth on November 29.

Accused Taken into Custody After Alleged Involvement in Murder

Gajanan Marne and Rupesh Marne were apprehended by the Kamothe police for the possession of two illegal choppers on Wednesday.

Subsequently, they were presented before a court in Navi Mumbai on Saturday after the expiration of their police custody remand.

Given that the police there did not request an extension of their custody, the two were transferred to magisterial custody and subsequently sent to prison.

Senior Inspector Retrieves Custody and Completes Formalities

Senior Inspector Shridhar Jadhav from Unit II, who was present in court, was tasked with retrieving their custody from Taloja prison.

Upon completion of necessary legal formalities, he took them into custody from the prison.

Under tight security, they were brought to Pune. The two accused are expected to be presented before the court on Sunday to request police custody remand.

Investigations Uncover Marne’s Alleged Involvement

Investigations have indicated that Gajanan Marne was present at the location where Amol Badhe was fatally shot.

During the incident, two of Marne’s associates, Santosh Kamble and Lakhan Lokhande, were also assaulted.

A total of 15 individuals have been arrested so far, while the 16th suspect, Sagar Rajput, remains at large.

Inquiries Aim to Determine Individual Roles in Crime

Senior Inspector Jadhav stated that Marne will be interrogated alongside previously arrested suspects to establish their individual roles in the crime.

Jadhav refrained from sharing further details due to the ongoing critical stage of the investigations.

Marne’s Earlier Attack on Rival Gang Associates

This marks the second incident involving Marne targeting associates of the Ghaywal gang within November.

In a prior attack on November 3, Marne and his accomplices hacked Santosh Hiraman Gawde to death in Lavle village, Mulshi taluka.

Six of Marne’s associates were arrested by the rural police in connection with that incident.

Despite subsequent efforts, the rural police were unable to apprehend Marne, who was evading capture after the November 3 attack.
