Pune Gangland: Notorious Gangster Gajanan Marne Held by Police for Involvement in Businessman’s Abduction; Linked to Gang Under MCOCA

Gang leader Gajanan Marne, known for his criminal activities, has been captured by the Anti-Extortion Squad of the Crime Branch in the Wai (Satara) region today.
He had been evading authorities due to his connection to the kidnapping of a businessman and a subsequent ransom demand of Rs 20 Crores.
Recent MCOCA Action:
Notably, Marne’s criminal syndicate recently faced legal action under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
The Crime Branch had intensified its efforts to locate and apprehend Marne, and their relentless pursuit has finally led to his arrest.
Efforts of Senior Officers:
The arrest operation was closely overseen by top law enforcement officials, including Additional Commissioner of Police Ramnath Pokle and Deputy Commissioner Srinivas Ghadge, along with other senior officers.
Gang’s Criminal History:
Investigations have unveiled a series of criminal activities orchestrated by the Marne gang, largely centered around establishing dominance in the Kothrud area.
Recent events saw the gang execute the abduction of a businessman, demanding a substantial ransom of Rs 20 crores.
Companions Apprehended:
In relation to the aforementioned abduction case, the crime branch had previously detained Marne’s associates involved in the criminal act.
Senior Police Inspector Balaji Pandhare of Anti-Extortion Squad (2), on behalf of DCP (Crime) Ghadge, submitted the proposal to Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta advocating action against the gang under MCOCA.
In alignment with this proposal, the authorities have invoked MCOCA against the gang. The investigation into this matter is being diligently pursued by Crime Branch ACP Narayan Shirgaonkar.
