Pune Gangland: Notorious Gangster Gajanan Marne Apprehended by Police for Businessman’s Abduction Case

The Anti-Extortion Squad of the Crime Branch successfully captured the infamous gangster Gajanan Marne in the Wai (Satara) region today. Marne had been evading authorities in relation to the kidnapping of a businessman and the subsequent demand for a ransom of Rs 20 Crores.
Recently, stringent action had been initiated against his criminal syndicate under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). Teams from the Crime Branch had been relentlessly pursuing his trail.
Coordinated Operation
The operation to arrest Marne was meticulously supervised by Additional Commissioner of Police Ramnath Pokle, Deputy Commissioner Srinivas Ghadge, and other senior officers. Their strategic efforts culminated in the successful apprehension of Marne.
Investigations have exposed the Marne gang’s involvement in various criminal activities aimed at asserting dominance in the Kothrud area.
A few days prior, the gang executed the audacious kidnapping of a businessman, demanding an exorbitant sum of Rs 20 crores as ransom.
The crime branch had previously taken into custody Marne’s associates linked to this abduction case.
MCOCA Action
The initiative to invoke the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the gang was presented to Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta by Senior Police Inspector Balaji Pandhare of the Anti-Extortion Squad (2), on behalf of DCP (Crime) Ghadge.
Subsequently, action was promptly taken against the gang under the provisions of MCOCA. Further investigations into the case are being carried out by ACP Narayan Shirgaonkar of the Crime Branch.
