Pune Gangland: MCOCA Invoked Against Gajanan Marne’s Gang After Rs 20 Crore Kidnapping

In response to the brazen kidnapping of a businessman who was forcibly abducted from his vehicle and subjected to a Rs 20 crore ransom demand, the Pune Police have invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the notorious gang associated with Gajanan Marne.

This marks the 102nd instance of Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta resorting to MCOCA within the past eighteen months, signifying a robust crackdown on organized criminal activities.

Accused Unveiled

The individuals identified as part of the criminal syndicate include Gajanan alias Gaja alias Maharaj Pandharinath Marne, a resident of Hamraj Chowk in Shastrinagar, Kothrud, Pune, Sachin alias Pappu Dattatray Gholap (43) from Dhankawadi, Hemant alias Anna Balaji Patil (39) hailing from Sangli district, Amar Shivaji Kiryat (46) of Satara district, Feroze Muhammad Shaikh (50), Rupesh Krishnarao Marne, Santosh Shelar, Monica Ashok Power, Ajay Gole, Mathur Jagdale, Mansing alias Sumat More, Nitin Paugare, Prasad Khadagale, and an individual known as Navne (full name and address not available).

Criminal Agenda Unveiled

Investigations into the activities of the Marne gang have brought to light a series of criminal offenses orchestrated to establish their dominance within the Kothrud area.

The gang was recently embroiled in the high-stakes kidnapping of a prominent businessman, during which they demanded a substantial ransom of Rs 20 crores.

Law enforcement swiftly apprehended the accused involved in this nefarious act.

MCOCA Enacted

The decision to apply the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the gang was set in motion when Senior Police Inspector Balaji Pandhare of Anti-Extortion Squad (2), in conjunction with Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime) Srinivas Ghadge, submitted a formal proposal to Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta.

The authorities, recognizing the severity of the situation, promptly authorized the implementation of MCOCA against the gang. The ongoing investigation is being meticulously overseen by Assistant Commissioner of Police Narayan Shirgaonkar.
