Pune city police have taken decisive action by invoking the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against notorious offender Ballusingh Prabhusingh Tak and his gang members, totaling four individuals.
This marks the 50th gang to be booked under MCOCA under the leadership of Pune police commissioner Amitabh Gupta within the past 11 months, since his appointment in September 2020.
Arrest Following Robbery:
In the early hours of July 5, a pursuit by the night patrolling unit of Kothrud police station led to the apprehension of Tak and his accomplices.
The gang members, armed with edged weapons, were captured while attempting to escape from Pancharatna Society after committing a robbery against its residents.
Legal Charges Filed:
A First Information Report (FIR) was registered at Kothrud police station, citing violations of sections 307 (attempt to murder), 395 (dacoity), 397 (use of deadly weapon in dacoity), and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharging duty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), as well as relevant sections of the Indian Arms Act.
Persistent Criminal Activities:
Investigations indicate that Tak leads an organized criminal gang with a history of serious offenses dating back to 2008.
A formal proposal to invoke MCOCA against Tak and his associates was submitted by Senior Police Inspector Meghashyam Dabnge to Additional Commissioner of Police Sanjay Shinde, through Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Pournima Gaikwad.
Following this submission, an official press release was issued, confirming the acceptance of the proposal. Assistant Commissioner of Police Gajanan Tonpe is spearheading the MCOCA case.
Strengthening Law Enforcement:
Pune police intensified its campaign against criminal syndicates after an incident in February.
During that time, gangster Gajanan Marne and his cohorts, after his release from Taloja jail, staged a grand procession on four-wheelers from Navi Mumbai to Pune, causing considerable embarrassment to the police force.
Subsequently, Marne was apprehended, leading to the filing of multiple charges against him.
