Pune Gangland: Chhota Rajan Gang Associate Apprehended by Pune Police, Transferred to CBI Custody

A specialized unit of the Pune city police crime branch has successfully apprehended an elusive associate of Chhota Rajan, who had been implicated under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) for his involvement in an extortion case alongside Rajan.

The arrested individual is identified as Parmanand Hansraj Thakkar (56).

Extortion Case Background:

The initial case was registered against Suresh Shinde, Ashok Nikam, Sumit Mhatre, and Parmanand Thakkar at the Panvel city police station, alongside the notorious criminal Chhota Rajan.

The charges were related to an attempt to extort Rs 25 crore from a builder by employing fraudulent documents for a property in Mumbai.

The Mumbai police invoked the MCOCA to take action against the culprits.

Sentencing and Abscondence:

Following legal proceedings, the Navi Mumbai Sessions Court sentenced Chhota Rajan, Suresh Shinde, Ashok Nikam, and Sumit Mhatre to a two-year imprisonment term, accompanied by a fine of Rs 5,000.

The accused Parmanand Thakkar managed to evade authorities and remained at large for six years. He had been on the Mumbai police and CBI’s list of wanted criminals.

Arrest and Handover:

The Pune police’s crime branch received intelligence regarding Thakkar’s location, pinpointing his residence in Pune’s Kondhwa area.

Based on this information, a crime branch team conducted a raid at the Three Jewels by Kolte-Patil building in Tillekar Nagar, Kondhwa, and successfully apprehended Thakkar.

He has since been transferred to the custody of the CBI for further legal proceedings.

Criminal History and Offenses:

The apprehended individual, Parmanand Thakkar, is a well-known criminal with a history of involvement in various criminal activities, including ransom demands and the forgery of property documents. He has a record of 11 cases of bounced checks.

DCP Bachchan Singh of the Crime Branch, Pune city police, elaborated on the situation, stating, “The arrested accused Parmanand Thakkar had been evading the authorities in Navi Mumbai in connection with the extortion case involving Chhota Rajan and his gang. The court had sentenced Chhota Rajan, Suresh Shinde, Sumit Mhatre, and Ashok Nikam to two years of imprisonment for their roles in the same case.”

Operational Details:

The operation to arrest Thakkar was executed by a team led by Police Sub-Inspectors Sanjay Gaikwad and Sunil Kulkarni.

Additional support was provided by police personnel Yogesh Jagtap, Ajay Thorat, Sachin Jadhav, Mahesh Bamgude, Ayaz Daddikar, and Tushar Malwadkar.
