MUMBAI, PUNE , 25 April, 2018
A recent police complaint filed by a Pune-based businessman against members of the Gawli gang for threats and extortion has led to the scrutiny of gangster Arun Gawli’s wife, Asha Gawli, also known as “Mummy”.
Consequently, Asha sought pre-arrest bail from the Khed court, a plea that was granted with a stipulated window of two days for compliance.
However, the unfolding events take a new turn as another businessman steps forward, submitting a fresh police complaint against Asha Gawli, Mobin Muzawar, Suraj Yadav, Onkar Panchras, Gorakh Pokharkar, and several others.
The complainant detailed that Mobin was involved in extortion activities at Dagadi Chawl and repeatedly issued death threats.
Chronicle of Events:
The victim, Savraram Naik, resides in Pune’s Loni Dhamni with his family and is the proprietor of petrol pumps and wine shops. He also possesses a significant 36-acre landholding.
Due to a kidney ailment, Naik’s brother, Anil, oversees his business operations. Subsequently, Anil encountered threats from Mobin Muzawar, Suraj Yadav, Onkar Panchras, and Gorakh Pokharkar, who demanded Rs. 5 lakh in extortion money. However, Anil chose not to yield to their demands.
On February 5, 2018, the accused individuals vandalized Anil’s wine shop. Following the incident, Anil approached the local sarpanch, who advised him to file a formal complaint with the police.
Acting upon this recommendation, Anil proceeded to lodge a complaint with the authorities.
Mobin, in response, cautioned Anil that involving the police would result in his demise. Intimidated by the threat, Naik’s family opted to settle the matter by paying the demanded sum.
Accordingly, Anil was instructed to visit Dagadi Chawl and meet Asha Gawli.
On February 24, however, instead of facilitating a meeting with Asha Gawli, Mobin demanded Rs. 5 lakh as extortion money.
When Anil expressed an interest in meeting Asha, Mobin forcibly confiscated Rs. 3.5 lakh and directed Anil to settle the remaining balance at a later time.
Taking a menacing approach, Mobin confronted Anil at a local village fair, coercing him into surrendering an additional Rs. 50,000.
Upon learning that another businessman, Sunil Kochar, had registered a police complaint against members of the Gawli gang, Naik felt empowered to follow suit and lodged his own complaint on April 22.
