Pune, 22nd June 2022
Pune city police have escalated their measures against criminal elements in the Viman Nagar area by invoking the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crimes Act (MCOCA).
This move comes in response to the activities of a notorious gang operating in the region, led by Rohan Ashok Gaikwad (25), a Kalwad Wasti resident from Lohegaon. A focused investigation is being spearheaded by ACP Kishor Jadhav.
Multifaceted Criminal Record Sparks Action
Eight members of the aforementioned gang have been targeted for legal action by Pune’s Commissioner of Police, Amitabh Gupta.
The gang members have accumulated a series of First Information Reports (FIRs) lodged against them, spanning multiple police stations including Airport (Vimantal), Yerwada, and Chandan Nagar.
Charges encompass an array of serious offenses such as attempted murder, criminal intimidation, illegal firearm possession, and robbery.
Proposal Gains Traction: MCOCA Deployment
The initiative to invoke the stringent MCOCA against this criminal syndicate took root through the efforts of Senior Police Inspector Bharat Jadhav, who holds responsibility for the Airport Police Station.
Recognizing the escalating threat posed by the gang’s activities, Inspector Jadhav proposed the implementation of the MCOCA. Subsequent to careful consideration and strategic collaboration under the direction of DCP (Zone 4) Rohidas Pawar and Additional Commissioner of Police Namdev Chavan, the action was set into motion.
Robust Police Response: A Growing Trend
The present instance marks a continuation of a trend under the leadership of Police Commissioner Gupta. With this latest move, the tally of gangs targeted and apprehended under the MCOCA reaches an impressive count of 85.
The invocation of such stringent measures signifies a robust stance by Pune’s law enforcement authorities to curb and dismantle criminal networks that threaten the peace and security of the city.
